Book selection: Mayumu by Ali Balingit
Join us for the Seasons Cookbook Club on Sunday, August 23rd, from 4 PM to 6 PM at Shea Cheese Lounge (right next to Shea Cheese).
We're cooking from Mayumu by Ali Balingit - Mayumu (published February 2023) is a Filipino American dessert and baking book — mayumu means "sweet" in Kapampangan, one of the eight major languages in the Philippines. It won the James Beard Award for Emerging Voice in 2024 and was nominated for Baking and Desserts, and was named one of the New York Times' best cookbooks of 2023.
Here's how it works: Choose a recipe from Mayumu that speaks to you, make it, and bring it to share. We'll eat together, talk about what we cooked (the triumphs, the surprises, the "I'd do this differently next time"), and discuss the book itself.
Along with your dish, bring your own plate and fork (the fewer dishes, the better).
